WorldFish: a bit of support goes a long way
Indian fish farmers didn’t need expensive new technology or a completely different way of growing fish, but the 730 Indian fish farmers participating in a WorldFish project, still managed to increase their net profit per farmer from $278 p.a. to $2,648 p.a. in five years. WorldFish provided practical support, to improve their farming methods and the local farmer societies did the rest. At a total cost of $272k, generating net profits of $3.52m.
Imagine: when more structures are in place to get these types of investments funded. Hundred of millions of small scale fish farmers are ready to grow more fish more profitable and more sustainable.
